To catch a tiger by the tail is to embark on a course of action that is difficult but cannot be abandoned. Which is the theme of the latest Gi collaboration between mural festival POW! WOW! and kimono supplier HYPERFLY.
POW! WOW!, which brings over a hundred international and local artists to create murals and other forms of art, was founded by Jasper Wong, who is the artist behind the Gi’s design.
Wong started POW! WOW! as a non-profit organisation of contemporary artists committed to community enrichment through the creation of art outreach programs, educational programs and engaging the community in the creation and appreciation of art.
It has bloomed into a worldwide network of artists and organises gallery shows, lecture series, schools for art and music, mural projects, a large creative space named Lana Lane Studios, concerts, and live art installations across the globe. Jasper himself has exhibited worldwide, in places such as Japan, France, London, New York, Hong Kong, and Australia, and he has been selected on multiple occasions by Archive magazine as one of the 200 Best Illustrators worldwide.
He is considered a major influence in the industry.
In the POW! WOW! x HYPERFLY Gi Jasper used heavy Japanese influences, which is a staple in most of his iconic work. He included a Japanese cloud pattern and tiger motif to embody the concept of mastery over heaven and earth, which the two elements represent.
The jacket is 8oz canvas with all lustrous black on black embroidery and full inside mesh sublimation. Embroidered tiger elements embellish both sleeves while a dark embroidered cloud pattern adorn the length of the lapels and collar.
The pants are constructed of 8oz canvas with shiny black dark cloud patterns down the leg and a tiger head embroidered on the back calf.
